Hello One and All. Hoping that someone will be able to help. Preferably using the most basic terms possible.

Want to run an internet and phone connection upstairs to a little office room from the main point downstairs

Would also like to add a T.V extension to upstairs.

Virgin will be supplying the three. So not sure what connections they will be bringing into the house and whether or not they will be separating the supplies, eg phone/internet in hall, cable in living room, as i would like.

Anyway if anyone could give me an idea what cable and flex I need to run from the different points and what faceplates etc I should be getting, that would be grand.

The phone comes in as an ordinary copper phone line terminated with a CTE5 (similar to a NTE5)

The cable TV and internet service come in on coax. This is split and connected to the cable TV box and cable modem. The cable modem provides you with an ethernet port. If you want to connect more than one device you will need to connect this ethernet point to the internet side of a suitable router (you need a router with an ethernet port on the internet side rather than a phone line port, often these are sold as "cable routers").

Cheers gents. As I said previously you'll have to excuse my luddish comprehension of this area. So some questions.

1. I'm anticipating the Virgin installers will put the modem connection downstairs, by the sound of it this will be in the front room. I believe Virgin will be installing a wireless router. My main computer (only actually) will be upstairs. Should I wish to move this router to the office, what cable and connections etc would be required to connect onto the ethernet connection at the modem.

2. With regard to the CTE5 or NTE5, again how do you go about connecting and running an extension. I'm trying to avoid horrible surface mounted extension cables such as you buy in Tandy's or somewhere similar.

3. Finally the telly. Am I right in thinking this would simply be co-ax taken upstairs. What connections do you use to connect onto the incoming cable tv box and again terminate this upstairs at the patress box.

With thanks once again.
