Hello,
we're replacing our cooker and would like some advice about cable routing please.
We moved into a 70's house around 6 months ago - the kitchen has been extended in the mid 80's and the cooker has moved position whilst the isolator switch is still where it was originally (around 4 metres from the cooker).
At the moment there is 6mm cable coming from the isolator, sunk in the wall behind the tiles at worktop level, the cable then comes out of the wall below the tiles and is then ran about 200mm under worktop level along the wall (one or two cable clips!), behind the base cabinets and down into the oven area. There is no cooker outlet (eek) just some connector strip that the previous installer has used to connect the cooker cable (even bigger eek).
I would like to make this good by using the existing isolator, tidying up the cable run and installing a cooker outlet behind where the cooker is going to be. Is it ok to clip the cable down the wall behind the cabinets and then along the wall at skirting level - 50-100mm from the floor then back up to 600mm from the floor for the outlet? It would be out of the way and visible this way. I have read that the isolator should be within 2m of the cooker - is this for new builds or any existing homes too? It's going to be a royal pain to move this as floors will have to come up and new cable ran from the consumer unit
Would appreciate some help please.
Thanks
