Hi all,

I have lurked on these forums for a long time, but have now finally joined up.

Used to work as an installation engineer for ADT(!) many moons ago, but not any more... although still do a few installs for friends/colleagues etc.

Quick question about cable routing..... am planning an install for a friend in the new year, and the only sensible hidden cable route to one of the doors will mean routing through a ceiling void near to the cables that drop down through the ceiling into the mains consumer unit.

What would be the minimum distance I should try to keep away from the mains when routing my door contact cable? (I realise that the further the better - but other than destroying the decor, I have no realistic other option)

I reckon I can be 50mm away - but no more than that.... would that be far enough?.... or do I need to break out the lump hammer and bolster chisel, and then break the bad news?!

Are there any screening products I can use on my cable to help?

Apologies if the questions appear a bit numpy-ish... it's been a long time since I was formally working in the industry!

If its only a short distance , I wouldnt worry about it.You could use screened cable if you want.Have a look at the ACT Meters website , there used to be some articles on measuring and reducing induced AC.
