get paid 400 pounds for weeks callout. qas i said my concern is not payment it is is this legal given e.u working time directive opt out ( which is soon to be scrapped)

It's irrelevant. Either leave, or get on with the job. There's plenty looking to take up a vacant position.

As oilman says, it's not really the time to be quibbling over it, if it's illegal then it's not you being illegal it's your employer.
If.

If you don't like it then leave. Goes with the job, they're not holding a gun to your head!

IF you have your own corgi registration, your own insurance, your own tools, your materials, your own transport, AND you are still fully rested when you work for your boss, AND your customers are from your own advertising and have nothing to do with those in whose houses you work, it would be ok.
the problem is that i have never come across someone who ticked all the boxes.
if you would either use my tools, my van, my materials, or get leads from my customers, i would sack you on the spot.

you have the opt out thing back to front, you have to sign to opt out of working extra hours (so if you did want to work overtime you do not sign) by not signing you are saying you want to work extra hours, speak to your line manager and discuss the issue perhaps he will be sympathetic and simply make other guys work 1 in 4 to allow you to sit in the house or he may tell you to get on with it or leave, who do you work for?

why should everyone one else do more callout because he doesn't want to? The terms are the same for all employess-if you don't accept the terms you don't accept the job. End of.

poke it where the sun don't shine.

no offence but sounds like few sore blokes here!!! i easily take home 45 k year without measly callout (8-430pm) actually and do 4 prtivate jobs on a sat morning through my own advertising(callout is, as you know merely jobs which have not been completed during the course of the day and passed down to callout chaps so firms can save face to social housing tenants!!!)thats not callout thats enforced overtime . sounds like alot of gas guys have no drive, initiative, moan about employers and pay but still stay there.ill moan but actually do something about it. yep i think i will leave. thanks serco. morons like you are exactly what normal blokes need to drive them on to better thermselves in an industry which offers plenty of employment opportunites . thanks pal

45k take home, so you must be on about 70 gross; that should make you the highest payed plumber in the country
