Well if the RCD fails you loose the smoke alarm, so what the difference if the MCB fails? Which is most likely to trip. When we had a grid failure yesterday I did go down into the flat to check, but had it been a clean brake, and not gone off/on/off I would not have realised until the phones started to bleep due to batteries going flat, at night yes, but during the day, only thing which would alert is the Nest thermostat saying it had lost wifi. My freezers were still running, so it was only the lights flashing on/off which alerted me some thing had happened.
