Can I alter the shape of my roof trusses?

Hi Fellow helpers.

I'm thinking of doing a loft conversion! At the moment my trusses look like image 'A' below. I want to give myself more floor space and change them to image 'B' - Can I do this? The roof is slate and the house was built 1930's. The existing supports are just nailed in place!

Any advice?
