Is it possible to replace a 45a cooker switch and single socket with a double socket,as i have a gas appliance and dont need it, dedicated for my tumble dryer and washing machine, therefore should anything blow/fuse it wouldnt knock all the house sockets out.

The current set up is a dedicated 32a mcb in the consudmer unit and 6mm wiring to the cooker socket would i be able to simply rewire the socket.

Any problems with doing this?

No problem its fine - treat it as a 32A (4mm) radial, just with a cable a bit thicker than it has to be.
However, note that any one double socket isn't up to carrying 26A, usually its either 13A or 20A combined load, depending on brand, so be careful with what shares with the tumble, or better, if any risk of full load then fit two separate sockets.

Note:
To comply with part P you should notify building control if the work was agreed to be started after Jan 1st 2005. However, I wouldn't lose that much sleep over this one.
