Can i knock this interior corner pillar out ?

Hi we live in a 1940s concrete build semi detached house in the back bedroom there is this corner I assume concrete or concrete block pillar in the corner of the bedroom , I'm thinking of knocking it out so I can fit a bunk bed in between the back wall and the door . I don't know why the pillar is there there's no support pillar in the room underneath . Is this structural or is there any other reason why this would be there ? I'm not a builder obviously so was wondering if anyone has come across these in the same type of house

Is it a waste pipe vent or extractor duct from a bathroom or kitchen somewhere below?

It will definitely have a purpose. Tap on it, see if it sounds solid (pillar) or hollow (boxed in something). I reckon it's a hollow box containing something.

Look from outside, is there a vent outlet on the roof above it?

Thanks for the reply , the extractor vent in the kitchen goes straight outside , and the fan in the bathroom is on the opposite wall . Can't see anything on the roof but I'm guessing they've had new roofs since they was built .
When I knock on it , it sounds more solid than the exterior wall and other interior walls .

Take out one of those shelf brackets and have a look with a torch and proddle with a thin screwdriver, see if it's plasterboard over fresh air and/or if there's something inside it.
