Can I vent a hot water cylinder to a different header tank?

The vent pipe is there to aid system filling and also a safety feature should the boiler stat fail.

Correct and unless there's a fault the heating water and domestic water can't mix.
Yes, and even if there is a fault, the heating water can't get into the domestic hot water, only the other way round.

Can if the coil goes in the cylinder and the header tank is higher than the storage tank. (water level)

That is correct, and it doesn't matter which tank it runs into.

Agreed it's not good practice and could cause problems for future plumber if they assume its from the heating etc.
