Can you watch this with a dry eye ?

Grief should be a private thing for a family and friends. Odd to want to pour your heart out to strangers throughout the world. People have been dying and been grieved over since the beginning.

Why should we wallow in someone else's tragedy? What's it for? Just as well we don't all do it.

Was the Diana funeral a watershed in this seeming need for public grieving, or was it as bad before ?

Yes, the Di thing was completely OTT. Grown men and women wailing in the street, blubbing into any lens that was aimed at them. Seemed like their own lives were over - wonder if they ever filled the void.

The first big display of public grief I can remember was when the King died on his throne. No, not George (I'm not that bloody old!!!), I'm referring to Elvis. Nothing on the Di scale though.

I remember Elvis dying, and like you remember a lot of people being shocked and sad . But not actually grieving as if it was someone they knew , or a relative.

Btw ... Which George? :)
