Cancellations...

Probably true, not checked it out.

But the monarchy, and the system, are in danger of alienating the very people they expect respect from. A day or so of news and cancelled events, and cancelling of events planned on the days of the funeral and then the coronation are to be expected. But to disrupt some things, and not others, for an unknown length of time is not going to help.
Its a " Once in a Lifetime " problem ( for most people) I am not a strict Royalist but I respect that the running of this Country is very lax by its Countries Leaders compared to other States and Countries , I am thankful for this and am prepared to tolerate a few days inconvienence for the freedom this Country affords .

I wasn't saying it should or shouldn't happen, but it's been a bit hit and miss over cancellations and for how long. hence the possibility of alienating the people generally.

Not a royalist either, but I don't disapprove of some quiet respect at times like this. It just seems haphazard for an event that was planned for.

I can put up with it - the "fuss", it's something nobody will be entirely happy with one way or the other.
It's certainly one of those fin de siécle moments where retrospection is called for.
Something I'd have expected more of, is overt respect from the military. The monarch represents the flag, the thing which gets the ultimate salute, the country, ultimately what they've all chosen to work for.

I'm not sure there can be too many people wanting to turn on't telly and see exactly the same images simultaneously on BBC1, BBC2 and ITV, though.

Why do you think that Romanian dictater was granted a state visit to the UK ???

....

... the queen was I’ll advised on hosting the fruit cake as he pinched any thing that was not screwed down in his buck house room

Than again no surprise as he was Romanian
There must be a list of stolen items? Did he leave with an awful lot more than he arrived with? Was it stashed in his diplomatic bag?
Or are you doing what you normally do, and tell lies about foreigners to stir up hatred against them.

That's a rhetorical question, so no need to answer. I think most of us already know the answer.
Do you have some kind of daily target: to tell at least one lie about the Romanians, the French, the Arabs, the Muslims, the Chinese, etc? Or do these lies just emanate from you automatically, without any thought.

nah he pinched any thing was not nailed down

apparently the palace was warned by the French government about his behaviour , as he apparently ransacked the room he was staying in including banging holes in the walls looking for bugging devices

tis all recorded on line if you can be bothered to look

but hey ho true to form ?? you stick up and defend the romanian des pot , the bloke directly responsible for torture and murder of his own people

diplomatic bag blimey you are having a laugh

more likely a diplomatic trunk (s) he would not have got it all in a bag(s)

dare say him and his missis would have rolled up the carpet and had that away if it was feasable ?? :ROFLMAO:

Romanian diplomatic bags used to come with an in built tool kit , hammers , screw drivers , crow bars and such like :ROFLMAO:

I see you're trying to pass off your rant against foreigners as a joke.
Clearly when you've been confronted you pretend your lies about foreigners was just a big joke.
It's still a lying rant about foreigners, and your lying rants about foreigners are not funny.

It wasn't the Crown or Government who choose to postpone the footie, it was the Associations and the BBBoC in the case of boxing... it had nothing to do with the Monarchy or System.

not at all dare say there may be reference to pinched items on line ? you could also see what the french say about his visit to them but I will agree that taking any word from them may ?? be dodgy

it is also stated that at one time the Queen deliberately hid behind a bush so as to avoid him and his wife

plus the fact that your hero also robbed his own country blind , stole billions from the romanian people

I many cases causing death by malnutrition

and there is no need to shout on line I am not deaf , just completely dis interested in your waffle

him again

Correct.

I am sure no pressure was brought to bear either.

Well that's something neither of us know so it just supposition on your part, if it were true then I'd expect the same pressure would have been brought to bear on Rugby, Cricket and all other sports... cricket in particular would have caved instantly.

Let's face it, those orgs jumped the gun and made the decision off their own back unless anyone has proof otherwise.

These Sports are controlled by different organisations and it is up to the Directors to make a decision to hold an event or not , Different people have different ideas as to whether the Directors made the right decision , its down to how much respect these clubs have for this Countries Royalty and Freedom and the respect of the public . Once in a lifetime decision and it can be either right or wrong depending on ones point of view

Cancelling an event would cost quite a lot and inconvenience everyone concerned so why not go ahead as a tribute with due respect shown and all profits to "HMQ" favorate charities

Why would I have a problem?

Demographics may not be helpful to the monarchy or monarchists and it's probably that which will spell the end for them.

A recent poll shows pretty good support for the monarch in the 50+ age groups as expected but it's the figures in the 18-24 group which will be a worry for them:

. When asked 'do you think the institution of the monarchy was good or bad for Britain?'
24% said Good.

. When asked 'Do you think Britain should continue to have a monarchy in the future, or should it be replaced with an elected head of state?'
33% said 'Should continue to have a monarchy'.

I wonder how those figures will start to look after King Charles Spaniel has been working his magic for a while.

We'll see I suppose.

I was reading Marina Hyde in the Grauniad at lunchtime and she mentioned the poll you talk about.
It seems you missed out the end of the question: 'Do you think Britain should continue to have a monarchy in the future, or should it be replaced with a strong leader who doesn't have to bother with parliament or elections (my itallics).
Source: Twitter.com

What kind of 'strong leader' do they mean?
Bolsanaro? Mussolini?

There's no reference in that article to the poll I quoted.

The article references the quote you took from the poll and is shown in the link to Twitter.

Nope.
Completely different poll.
If the link to the poll on Twitter isn't the one you wrote about then i'm sure you can find the link to the poll you meant in your original post.

Of course I can find the link to the poll I mentioned. Do you think I made it up?

Are you asking me to post a link?
