my radiators badly need cleaner and then inhibitor putting in I have radiators with a small screw that you insert a screwdriver in to bleed and the water comes from a tiny pin hole. I drained 500ml of water as recommended and tried to put cleanser in with bottle and pump provided but because entry to radiator is at an angle once blocking nut has been removed it just backed up on itself and flowed back out onto floor , any ideas , already wasted 1/2 a bottle and as you know its not cheap , thanks.

just to check, have you got a pressurised system with a pressure gauge on the boiler?

Not an open vented system with a Feed & Expansion tank in the loft?

A photo of the bleed hole you are trying t o squirt through would be useful. The tapered needle is usaully in a screw-in plug that can be removed.

What did you do to get 500ml of water out?

you can get a kit to insert into the bleed valves, costs about £40 so not sure it will suit as a 1 off, if you are handy enough you can shut valves remove small rad drain outside, keep rad upside down use a funnel to insert cleaner then refit rad (carefully so you dont spill cleaner out of rad) not a great explanation but have done it a few times

if got 15mm pipework too upstairs rads, in the past i`ve drained down, then un done 1 trv/ls valve upstairs and tipped it into pipework........( sealed system)

Op, after the system has been treated you are going to have to empty and flush it anyway. So don't be shy about how much water you drain from it now. In fact, it could be argued that you should flush it all through until you get clearish water before you even try to add a desludger/cleanser.

So, once partially drained down, either remove the whole of a top nut from a radiator and used a funnel to pour the chemical in (if you have a sealed system), or pour it into the FE tank in the loft if this is what you have.
