Can't get the trap tightened to waste!

Sure, go for it! Just check the rubber ring inside the elbow is still there and the new pipe is a snug fit.
John :)

Thanks again mate.

I'm gonna ask you to go the extra mile for me and see if you can link me to the appropriate pipe that I need on screwfix or B&Q if you don't mind? I've been looking and all I can see are the solvent weld compatible ones.

Push fit pipe is not UV stable so you should really just replace that to where it enters the stack/drain. You're already buying the pipe, add a solvent weld elbow, a wee tub of solvent and it's all replaced in a jiffy, a guaranteed fit for the trap and it's white so it'll match the wall ;). Go on, you know you want to. Throw a couple of clips on the wall too and it'll even look professional

I'd love to but I have no ladders to reach up and replace the lot. I can literally only reach out the window and get a hand on that elbow.

I'll dig out my superman costume and see how the flying skills are though
