Can't Ignite Baxi Bermuda Back Boiler

All is well now.
Local gas bloke came round and ignited it with usual button etc first time. Did my yearly service too whilst there, so all good.
No idea what I was doing wrong.
Will pick his brains later as was out when he came this morning.
I followed the instructions by setting up controller to request heating and hot water. Held in the grey gas button and clicked the ignitor a few times.
Attempted a few times with breaks in between but couldn't get pilot to work.

He should have attempted it but he wouldnt have been allowed to do anything to it when it didnt light it would be down to you.
Absolutely. Agree with that but he should have tried. Just interested to know more what the hell I was doing wrong.

existing fault with back boiler igntion , not hotpoints problem .
Same as when meter installers or cadent attend yep attempt to light it but if it doesnt light its not their problem
It does seem to me to be a bit of a coincidence that something in your perfectly functioning boiler should fail at exactly the same time as the gas is turned off to do something else. It'll be interesting to see if the boiler person can get the boiler pilot light going OK. I suspect he will do. (and I see from a later post that he did light the pilot successfully)
As for the "engineer" that Hotpoint sent out, he's just plain incompetant, and Hotpoint should really take this on board and be responsible for it.

Agreed. Have told them.
My local engineer said he didn't do anything in particular to light it apart from having the front off thr boiler for the service.
Maybe I had lit it briefly but couldn't see the flame. Not sure....

a coincidence that happens very often especially on older appliances and this one will be well over 25 year old.
pilot lights will often be lit when the boiler is stripped and all open so in a lot of instances they are lit for ease with a lighter or a match and sometimes there is just a knack or luck into getting them lit with the sparker by rapidly clicking it .
Pure and simple the guy is not qualified on boilers as he doesnt have to be . There is qualified guys who shyte their pants when looking at a back boiler
