I'm presuming your fitting is approx 300mm. Just leave the board disconnected & swop the supply to something like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4-x-10cm-...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4181e00c46 which you can stick inside the existing fitting with d/s tape & use the original switches & everything else.
