Card readers: "Please insert a Disk into Drive X "

Damned things drive me nuts. I seem to get through about 3 a year. They work fine for a while but then the PC doesn't see them, so you reboot reload drivers etc and wind up getting the message above.

This one's a SanDisk ImageMate All-in-One. It works with CF cards but not SD now.

Can anyone advise what the hell is going on? Why should I need spare card readers stored up for when they pack up. I'm very cross!

I suppose I can send it back to the retailer, but he'll probably say it isn't faulty...

Do you use the 'Safely Remove Hardware' icon when unplugging the card reader?

Try putting a card in and then plugging in, remove card from reader but leave reader plugged into computer.
Then use the Safely Remove icon before unplugging the reader.
