My father loved Triumphs

He had 3 ( not the same time) triumph vitesses

Straight 6

My uncle had. vW beetle but I am
Pretty certain ??? That his had a rotary engine in it ( may be wrong ??)

Most talked about car I had was a Citreon BX estate.
I had a BX 19RD but the hatch. F599 OVH.
The number matched our house number at the time.

I loved it to bits. The only thing I didn't like is that there were lots of taxis with the same engine, so whenever people heard it coming, they'd turn round expecting their lift to be arriving...

I bought it from a place in Chapel en le Frith. The guy took me out in it first and scared me to death bombing down the bypass at an indicated 120.

When we got back he told me to take it out so I took off expecting similar amazing acceleration.

It was soooooo sedate!

I took it back and he was perplexed. He told me I must be driving it "wrong".

I made him a wager that if he drove it fine and I drove it and it performed sedately again and I decided to buy it that he would knock 500 off the price we had negotiated. He took it out with me in the passenger seat and it was like a snail.

Turned out the pedal box was damaged and the accelerator travel was compromised.

Beautiful car, written off by an idiot who failed to give way.

Interesting fact about the BX...

It was designed by Marcello Gandini of Bertone and it was based on two of his unused design concepts:

1. The 1977 Reliant FW11 and
2. The 1979 Volvo Tundra.

I can't find side views of them at the moment, but they both bear a striking resemblance to the BX. Or should I say the BX bears a striking resemblance to the FW11 and the Tundra.

I had a Triumph Dolomite Sprint that I bought in the army, 16v OHC it was the bees knees in those days. Had an overdrive switch on the top of the gear lever. Never had a spot of bother with it. TC Webbers. When cars where cars

With the overdrive button if I recall?

yes it had an overdrive that gave it a 5th gear electronicaly, it just dropped the revs on a long run
I think the overdrive on the Sprint worked in 3rd and 4th. Also, the standard carbs were SUs, so someone must have added the Webers later.
