A recent run on the economy, means that cashpoints provide consumers with £5, as that is what consumers prefer. This means that cashpoints have less 'real' cash to provide to consumers. So the ATM is spent quicker, especially upto the approach to winter.

An ATM hold £80k max over a bank holiday weekend, but by using £5's, is reduced somewhat, so the ATM runs out of cash more quickly.

There's definitely no 'fivers' in our local ATMs. The other night I went out with the lads, you know typical lads night out. Taxi into city, quite a few beers in a few bars, night club & more beers, curry afterwards then taxi home.
I had to take a 'tenner' out of the ATM 'cos there were no 'fivers'. ;)

Obviously, as £5'ers take up room in the ATM, they run out quicker, than say, if it had £50's loaded (which they could), mainly £5 ATM dispensers are in University cities/around the University areas, but most banks state that they stock £5's now, but with the run up to Xmas, probably try not to, as they have to refill them more often, say daily, rather than once every 3-4 days. And most self fill retailers wouldn't want to fill with £5's, due to the £1.75 handling charge, plus the fact that the picking method, and thin belts/small notes means more jams. So more downtime.
