Is it possible that this government is doing something bent yet again?

If we do anything then we might have an effect. But if we're delaying everything for 30 days then we're doing ****.

Abramovich is my yardstick. If he's free to come and go and spend his money then we're not taking it seriously yet.

Britain and America, which has also indicated that there will be a deferral of some of its sanctions measures targeting Russian financial institutions, have said the winding down provisions are necessary to avoid legitimate Western account holders from being unfairly penalised by having their assets frozen before they can take action.

I agree about Abramovich, Although at this point in time I can't see his name on the EU list of sanctioned individuals. The EU’s hit list: Who’s who in the Russian sanctions (maltatoday.com.mt) and let's be clear, he is an EU citizen (Portugal), having abandoned his application for UK citizenship after being denied a visa at the time of the Salisbury poisonings.

as corrupt, untrustworthy, deceitful and dishonest.

Sounds like a good description of Boris's lot as most changes may well be found to have hidden surprises some months after they are made.

The situation is fluid and will change but at this point in time the UK (and Boris) can hold their heads high.
LOL Things like that are often not as straight forward as they may appear.

She's effectively asking him why he hasn't started WW3
All of Ukraine is asking for that and their leaders.

Yes and yes. Problem is John that just imposing a no fly zone is tantamount to an act of war, if we did impose one we will at some stage be forced to shoot down a Russian aircraft which would be a total declaration of war and possibly the end game. The USA ain't going to do it, the mighty EU ain't going to do it, I'm not sure why some on here feel that Boris should go 'full tonto' and do it?

If you stop the ability of people to move assets out of Russia with a total freeze, you effectively gift Putin the assets. This is why the west is allowing limited movements.

Exactly what Ben Wallace said on Sky News. No fly zone, gets tested, jets shot down, article 5 of NATO triggered = WW3

It's odd that the only interview early on when it was being called for that bought this factor up is AlJ. I'd suspect the choice of banks also relates to who's money they are holding.

Putin it seems has asked Russian companies to do something in respect to rubles but I couldn't make any sense of it as it was mentioned too briefly.

The total effect of all of the sanctions depends on transaction difficulty in Russia and how self sufficient the country is. The most serious sanction may be the Russian state bank. Switzerland joining in is interesting. However there are indications that Iran has had the same sanctions for rather a long time. The USA decided to settle a debt with them and the only way they could do that was fly the money there. The UK has one too. All goes back to arms when the Shah was in charge. Some stuff never arrived. Their revoultion will have seized western assets.

;) Oligarchs though - lets face of it all countries have them, all nationalities. All do "things" with their money paying tax is something they world rather not do. Companies can be very similar.

'A move resisted by some European countries'

UK will avoid confronting Russian troops despite fears Putin will try to flatten Ukrainian cities, Johnson says (msn.com)

Britain is stepping up the use of sanctions, with Russia’s sovereign wealth fund and the military leaders of Belarus targeted in the latest round of measures.

The Prime Minister is expected to hold more talks with world leaders in the coming days and will urge them to push Russian banks out of global payment systems entirely, a move resisted by some European countries.

But Mr Johnson has rejected calls by Conservative MPs and others to impose a no-fly zone, which would mean Western troops potentially confronting Russian planes in the skies over Ukraine.

He told ITV News: “You would have to take decisions to shoot down Russian jets. And that’s not something that any western country is contemplating. What we can do is stick up for the Ukrainians, support them in the ways that we are, offer humanitarian relief and assistance, and offer to welcome them.”

I think any Russian exporter collecting foreign currency for sale of goods has to hand over that currency in exchange for 80% of the value in roubles, something like that.

not the same news paper at all

It was launched as sister to the Independent, providing a smaller paper aimed at people in a hurry.
But then the Daily Mail bought it.

Certainly related, but maybe more like a long lost cousin than a sister!

"Is it possible that this government is doing something bent yet again?"

Not only possible, but very likely.
Link, as requested

It's a link about parties and having his flat wallpapered.

It is a link about the the opinion of a Professor of Anti-Corruption Practice at the Centre for the Study of Corruption, in which he says "There is more corruption and corruption risk in and around this government than any UK government since the Second World War."

But as every police officer knows, when you catch somebody up to no good on several occasions, they are almost always found to be lots more illegal activities.
Some people are law abiding, and some are not. Some are ethical, some are corrupt.

So I stand by my opinion that it is both possible and likely that our government is bent.

She's effectively asking him why he hasn't started WW3, that decision is way above his pay grade. Rest assured though. when it does kick off Britain will be at the forefront.
There was a no-fly zone over Iraq, Libya and over Bosnia.
Only the Bosnia no-fly zone had UN backing.

But there was little real danger in enforcing those zones.
Enforcing a no-fly zone over Ukraine is something that no countries are willing to do, or even contemplate raising it at the UN to protect civilians.
