I would expect a lead bay with a lead outlet and when the pipe brackets are removed you should find you can pull it down.

As above.

The lead outlet is probably dressed down into the metal pipe.

It would pay you to go up on the lead flat and examine the condition of the lead and remove any debris.
By lifting a few tiles you could then raise the lead flat and check the condition of the boards underneath.

Also check the tails of the barge boards for rot.
And the undercloaking esp. on the right.

Thanks guys

Top section of pipe had to be lifted up through lead as pipe had a female/!socket end at very top

These are the steps

1. Removed all cast iron bar top section

2. Go on to roof and open up lead at join

3. Removed lead collar(upside down collar) which was fixed to wood and fitted inside cast iron pipe

4. Removed cast iron section

5. Fitted new plastic

6. Refixed lead and sealed lead

7. Fixed downpipe to wall with brackets
