I've heard that a few times and I always think it sounds like a hilarious practical joke someone played once, and it sounded so plausible people have passed it on.If you mark your own territory by taking a pee around your garden you might find that deters the cats from coming into your space as the will smell the scent.
I've used a couple of them and, yes, they do work well. I still have them in my shed.The motion sensor water squirter is the best, it really goes and makes a noise as well..., plus in the summer it will be fun to catch visitors out hee hee. grandson will love it. We had foxes that were digging holes in the new turf, I thought it was rats but a pest controller came round and said its foxes (no charge just for looking). Now weather is better we are putting the squirter back up soon.
