evening during the renovation we have decided to use external wall insulation as the house gets cold and it will create a nice texture from the outside. The builder has quoted around £9500.

However I got questions

People say ewi isn't suitable for cavity walls but my house is solid wall but the kitchen has a very small gap in the middle of the two bricks (the gap is less than a normal cavity wall gap) and the brick measures more than 9 inch so that mean it not solid. I also know this because I used to hear mice creep up the inner walls theogh the air bricks. Note, the house never been extended. it is 1925 house.

Does that mean I got a cavity wall or not? One of the builders said some bricklayers used to brick houses like this but I am not sure if it's true or not?

please let me know

There are houses built in Stretcher bond that are solid, just as there are cavity walls built in Flemish bond.

I won't class it as a cavity though. One of my neighbors had EWI installed on an extension which was a cavity. Doesn't really serve a purpose but I think he wanted to match it with the rest of the house.

thank you googled it now looks like my wall is stretcher bond the wall has a slight gap in the middle but I can always add cavity insulation to it along with ewi As the room does get cold in winter! the wall measure around 10.7 inch btw

I don't want to waste money installing the ewi on the kitchen if it doesn't need it. The rest of the hoise is solid brick.
