Ceiling above the Ceiling

Hi All,

I have a kitchen that I'm looking to open up into a side entry to make it bit more open plan. The two are seperated by a wall that supports the ceiling and nothing else.
The ceiling is quite low at just less than 2.3m and there are two steps down in the side entry of about 120mm and again down 150mm.
I'm therefore bringing floor levels all up to same and raising ceiling.
If I pop my head into the roofspace I can see ceiling joists and binders across the entire roof width, roughly 760 spaced joists and 1700 binders. The rooms below this have their ceiling joists resting on that partition wall I'll be taking away.
Guess my question is once I take down that partition wall and ceilings of differing heights, and expose the roof joists/binders that are there above, can I just use those to create the new raised ceiling?

This is more a question for a structural engineer. Better to ask someone with the knowledge to advise.
I'd say it's possible though.
