Hi
I have a slowly dying vortice 10206 timer version (kr t) that I thought was the standard non timer version 10205 which I ordered and tried fitting today.
before returning and ordering the same one. Is there a way to getting the standard one to work in place of the timer? The timer one I have literally stops as soon as I turn the light off.
Cheers

A timer fan needs a permanent feed and a switched live from the lights. This lets it overrun for a time when the light switches off. A normal fan doesn't have a timer, therefore it will go off when the supply to it dies e.g. light switched off.

What you're saying is a bit confusing - did your old fan stop when you turn the light off as well?

Confusing post, you were sent - and returned a standard fan- and want to know you could wire it up in place if the timer? Answer is yes but you will have a spare permanent feed to disconnect.

@gaz1234 the layout of the room may need a timer fan to meet Building Regulations. What sort of room is it, does it have an opening window?
What have you got installing another timer fan?

Yes it turns off literally a second street the light goes iff

I’ve since ordered the same fan as the one that’s up in the loft and turned the standard model. Will try and fit this weekend.
Presumably the timer is the little green adjustment on the Fan itself?
I’ve not got a photo to share.

I presume you are talking about the guidance in the Approved Doc F?

As you are presumably aware, the Building Regs per se have no explicit requirement for any sortr of fan, let alone a timer one.

To meet the requirements the vast majority of homes would need to use a timer fan to achieve them

Do you mean you want to fit a non-timer fan?

Why?

I'm not so sure about that, I don't know about "the vast majority", but I would imagine that a pretty high proportion of bathrooms have an openable window and, even though it may never be opened, that would seem to be enough to satisfy the regs.

I don't think The Building Regulations mention bathrooms in respect of ventilation, do they?
Not at all. As you will be aware, Part F of the Building Regs, per se, is about as brief as Part P, being only a couple of sentences that essentially say that 'ventilation shall be adequate' in a totally general sense.

Approved Doc F says an awful lot more - but is, as you know, only 'guidance', not regulations or 'law'.
