Ceiling light fitting - live and neutral wires are the same colour

I've purchased this light fitting second hand off ebay

The only issue is that it looks like when purchased from new, the wires are supplied connected to a connection box.

I've been sent the fitting with no connection box and the live and neutral wires are both the same colour with no way of being able to distinguish which is which.

Does it matter which way round they're fitted? Failing that is there a way to test which is which?

There will be a fine thread in each wire to identify which conductor is which.

The live is the one which goes to the base of the bulbs, the neutral goes to the thread.
 
You could use a multimeter, torch bulb battery and bit of wire etc. to identify which goes to which part or the bulb holder.
the outer screw is N the inner at the bottom is L
