Hi, my friend has moved into a new home, where he trying to install a new ceiling light to the picture attached. Not sure how the previous owner has wired this. But the issue is and possibly as a result of this wiring the 2 lights in the nearby rooms don’t work as well. All other lights work in the house…any ideas please? Also checked the fuse board and nothing has tripped..any guidance appreciated!

Ceiling light new house, tripped other lights

Also checked the fuse board and nothing has tripped..

and no picture before the light was installed ??
3 T&E cables (grey) coming out the ceiling
likely a feed power - Live / Neutral & Earth
then a feed going off to the next light fitting power - Live / Neutral & Earth
3rd cable - Light switch - live and Switched live (red and black )

so the way that seems to be wired and cant see exatly looks like the black cables - probably some may be the neutral - linked to the Live Red
Note - electric does not know the colours - depends on how wired

and NOTHING has tripped ??????

were the other 2 lights controlled by the same switch - or just different rooms with OWN switches

i cant see the photo - but it looks like 2 black and 4 red
can you show the cables coming out of each T&C grey cable

simple wiring examples

Edit for clarity - replying to @Charn

Excluding the earth wires, this is how I see the wiring connections, is this correct?

does not look right to me
BUT i would expect things to trip ....

do you have a multimeter ??

the cable with the 2 red cables - maybe that goes to the switch - can you open up the switch and lets see a photograph of the connections

Seem to be missing a connector for the Switched Lived, for the actual lamp itself

BUT you say NOTHING tripping - is there a connector Missing ?

I would say, remove the red link, and split the two blacks, one of those blacks likely line, and the other one is neutral. From picture can't work out if two cables or three, answer given assuming two cables.

WARNING

MAYBE something like this - BUT dont do anything , until answered my LAST post and SWITCH cable colours
as doing this may cause damage - injury ......

BUT a lot of changes

also you did not answer

MAYBE something like this
Yes, that was my guess, and would logically describe the OPs situation, Making loop out lights inoperable, without any tripping.

I suspect they are simply referring to the two other lights not working, rather than an actual 'trip'.

Definitely 3 cables, Eric.

Sorry for the confusion, I mean the main switchboard is not tripping, but the are to close by rooms which also have lights which don’t turn on.

That’s correct yes, 2 other lights on 2 other close by rooms which don’t turn on. Sorry i will use the word ‘tripping’ correctly next time

Sorry I meant 2 other close by room where the lights also don’t work. The main fuse board shows no tripping at all.

So the two other lights are controlled by separate switches in their own room
