whoopeeeeeeeeee its working. 
tried the cylinder stat but still the same, so i thought i would pull the timer control panel off and have a look, it hooks at the bottom and screws at the top, and it had come away at the bottom so all the terminals were not connecting, so took out the screws pulled it off , hooked it into place at the bottom pushed it into place and screwed it back in,now everything is back to normal.thats what you get for thinking too hard.
