I've got a nice light in the living room which uses 8x10w G4 bulb. I wanted it to be brighter and bought 20w light bulb which was clearly against what was adviced and within 10mins the whole light stopped working.

I read up a little and decided to salvage the light with a new transformer but also took the opportunity to convert it to LED. As I am converting it to LED can I then use brighter LED equivalents ?

I've fix in a 24W LED driver and am waiting for my LED g4 bulbs to come. They will be 2.9w each which I'm guessing will be brighter than my 10w non-LED previously.

It seems to make sense to me but thought I should ask here and see if I'm doing something wrong.
