Changing two way light switch

I’ve attached one with the right hand wires update as per the earlier advice.
Thanks. It all "looks" as it should.

As you can see there are five wires, not six
Yes, that is usual because the landing light can also be operated from downstairs.
I presume that is the case, is it?

If it is, the switch with only two wires should be the bedroom light.

I need a think.

Correct. The landing light also controlled by a switch the next floor down. At the moment that switch doesn’t work either.

Im thinking that I need to flip the wiring on this top floor switch i.e. change out the l1 and l2s

Should I also flip the L wires?

basically turn it into a mirror image of what’s pictured in the photo?

Ok.

No, that will make no difference other than the switch working upside down - which you won't notice.

Should I also flip the L wires?
No.

All I can think of if you have terminated the wires correctly, that is screwed down on the copper, not the insulation, is that -

sometimes the copper will snap inside the insulation.
Do any of the wires feel floppy compared with the others?

Other than that, it is not unheard of to waste hours on a new product which is faulty.

When you fitted the new switch downstairs ,did you try operating the existing upstairs switch to ensure all was working ok ,before disconnecting the upstairs switch to fit your new upstairs switch ??

No because top floor switch stopped working. Due to a wire that had come loose. The ground floor single switch works fine. The first floor switch to the first floor landing works fine. The first floor switch to the 2nd floor landing and the 2nd floor switch to landing and upstairs bedroom are the problem. does that help you offer me a solution?

cheers

How many switches have you replaced in total ?
At what point in the process of fitting new switches did the top floor switch stop working ? Or was it not working before you fitted any new switches ?

Three switches. The top floor one first as it had the loose wire. And has only five wires not the six I was expecting.

can you help?

You will need to provide a lot more info and do some testing ,do you have a multimeter ?

I assume you refer to a non contact voltage sensor . If so that's not going to be much use to you.
What area of the country are you based in ?
