Channel 5 Television

Channel 5 TV is very difficult to pick up in the town where I come from and in the town in which I now live. Is this a national problem or is it confined to certain parts of the country. Why is it that we can pick up channels 1 to 4 without problem but 5 seems to be a hit or miss?

Channel 5 is a weaker channel in my area, have you tried it with a freeview box?

I'm not in the freeview post code area for it but it's a much better picture

It's useless here but I can get it on freeview.

However it's a load of rubbish so not worth the trouble.

I'm not in the Freeview postcode area either but off and on can get a good picture via the built-in freeview facility on the telly. However, lately its been more off than on. Are there any plans to make coverage nationwide?

It's always been a weak channel in many areas.

We tried on-digital years ago and couldn't get C5 so went with Sky.

Just tried a freeview box and still can't get it so they haven't improved things much in the past 7 years or so down here

Can't get channel 5 at all, can't get freeview either, nor digital radio. and I live 4 miles from the centre of Brighton, which advertises itself as some sort of wired city.
upshot of this is, because the content on the only 4 other channels is such drivel, I have stopped watching TV. its great.

From the freeview website,
The whole of the UK is going through digital switchover, where all television will be digital between 2008-12. When your area goes digital, you should be able to get the Freeview channels.

its not a wired city its a wierd city (still think its a town cant get used to city!)

In most places Channel 5 is transmitted at much lower power than the other channels. It had to be fitted in among existing channels for BBC and ITV and not interfere with adjacent transmitter areas which due to lack of channels used the same channel for Channel 5.

Its because when channel 5 aired for the first time all of the transmitters were already being used fully by the exiting 4 channels so channel 5 has only ever been broadcast at weak levels.

From what I can gather, when they switch over to digital the main transmitters will be broadcasting all of the freeview channels but if you are on a local repeater transmitter then you may only get some of the freeview channels.

What's your postcode?

The freeview sites are not accurate enough to give a straight YES/NO answer to coverage.

there is no probswith channel 5 in my area, apart from the ***** that they put on it

Are you Phishing? Seriously though, I found the Free-view site and discovered that I have a very poor signal in my area but also that it will improve next year. Roll on next year!
