Cheap landline calls abroad.

Fair enough, but my provider (Vonage) charges 7.9p access charge plus call recipient's service charge for 0870 calls, and other providers seem to be fairly similar.

7.9p is very reasonable to call abroad, but how much will the 'recipient's service charge' amount to?

My last few years in Britain when I was calling the U.S. regularly I used this service:

http://www.18185.co.uk

At one point it was only 0.5p/min. to the U.S., but looks as though it's 1p./min. now, along with many other popular calling destinations (there's a 4p. connection charge per call as well).

Dealing with 87 y/o lady with limited Engrish - no internet - But still standing.

BT - Anytime (0870 free - with caveats)
Tried Amigo.... to Oz, cost £SFA !! (thus far)!

Will try 18185 or 6 at some stage...(y)

Yes, I think I've heard of that before. Bookmarked the site anyway and when I next need it I'll give it a try.
I'm not sure whether it will work with our phone, though: we use Vonage VOIP (free calls to all 01, 02 and 03 numbers). I may contact them and ask.

I doubt you'll be able to access it directly by just dialing the 18185 prefix, but there is an 0808 access number as well, although I think some rates are a little higher that way:
