Chemicals to Clear Poo in Sewage

Last year we suffered from bad smells in the area around the manhole cover of the sewage outside. We got a guy to come out who opened up the manhole, found a pile of poo and pushed it away and cleared the area with a special long tool.

We have the same problem again this year and I was wondering if, instead of shovelling **** (literally) if there was a chemical we could pour all over the area that would disintegrate the poo and help clear the flow again.

Any ideas? Thanks

Given that poo is 75% water and the rest is mainly organic material, I would have thought that water is all that is needed.

Sounds like you may have a slight blockage that means the waste floats, the water level drops and hey presto the problem occurs

We get this occasionally on the public drain running through our front garden and a call to the local water company sorts it out

Manhole covers should be airtight - and can be made so using manhole grease ( yes it is a thing , but google it for supply )

I would also look at the design/condition of the chamber floor to see if there is a particular reason why the solids are building up. The chamber should be designed in such a way that there are no areas for the solids to be caught on and allow to build up.
