Just cut around this latch for door but how do I chisel out the bend?

You use an appropriate size of Forstner bit or even a spade bit. Make sure you mark the centre line then punch a "start" at the centre point of the curved end to keep the bit correctly aligned

They often end up looking like thrupenny bits if you do that, especially in softwood.

An in-cannel gouge of the right diameter would be the "proper" way to do the job, but as they are all but extinct you'll not find many joiners using them any more (in any case they can be a pain to sharpen)

The correct size bit would have the centre in the hole so not viable , ( which would require drilling before the catch hole ),many like that have a square edge top plate so don’t need a round recess.Which is why I asked what the top plate looks like .?

??? The OP asked, "how do I chisel out the bend" and posted s picture of a radiused end keep... Forstner bits have a very small centre point, spade bits can often be reground to minimise the centre point size and in any case we are talking about drilling down only the depth of the thickness of the plate, or circa 2 to 3mm. The "socket" for the keep hole and the rest of the waste would be taken out with a sharp chisel

Yes that's the top cover, [or faceplate, yours has separate top cover, not all do]which fits over the catch and secures the catch [currently you have screws right thru the catch doing nothing].You cut the recess to accept both surfaces of catch and that cover which is a square cut, no round recess required. You should have a separate and quite different keep' for the frame.

Radius of bit would put centre point in fresh air and he doesn't need a round rebate despite thinking he does.See my reply above now he has found the entire catch and surface plate.

Yes, but the original question was about radius end ironmongery, and we fit a helluva lot of that these days (for example there's one 40-odd storey apartment block I know of where they originally specified radius end locks and keeps throughout). If he didn't pull all the gear out of the packet........

Original question was obviously flawed, well it was for me .
