Upskirting row: MP's office targeted in 'pants protest'

ChopesPants.jpg

"Anger over a Conservative MP's decision to block a bill to make "upskirting" a criminal offence has manifested itself in an unusual way in Parliament.

The entrance to Sir Christopher Chope's Commons office has been decorated with women's pants in an apparent protest by Commons staff against his actions."

And his constituency office as well.

A light-hearted protest in his home town has been widely circulated on social media, leaving its instigator in shock.

Local artist Lorna Rees was so outraged that her local MP objected to the Voyeurism (Offences) Bill that she strung three pairs of pants together as bunting and hung them on the door of his constituency office in Bargates.

The site mods were probably under the misunderstanding that it could be defamatory.

What about the poor horses in another proposal he blocked?

The media only seem to be concentrating on knickers - I wonder why.

We really are led by idiots.

another proposal he blocked

He's made a hobby out of filibustering and blocking, and has been criticised before.

This one attracted widespread criticism especially among politically aware women and their associates on Friday mid-afternoon, prior to the mass media picking it up.

Subsequently, the displays of underwear have brought the events to the attention of a wider audience, including people who have no interest in politics or sexual predators.

AFAIK, although he has been strongly criticised for his actions in the past, this is the first time there has been such wide public condemnation.

On Friday, his buddy Philip Davies filibustered for hours so that there would be insufficient time to deal with this bill.

He's now moaning about being criticised, and saying that it isn't fair. H describes himself as a "victim" https://blogs.spectator.co.uk/2018/...upskirting-im-the-victim-of-a-tory-stitch-up/
Some people think that he isn't in favour of Private Member's Bills, but he's put forward dozens of his own

His Conservative chums are very cross that this will be a tory vote-loser for them in the approaching general election, as it reinforces the view that tories are a bunch of hidebound old dinosaurs that care more about Parliamentary ritual, and getting one over on the opposition, than about protecting the common woman (or man)

It still holds true that we have only heard about this in order that the media can titillate themselves and their audience with talk of knickers and bums and because it involves women - common or not.

The bill will still become law.
Then lawyers can argue about whether it was upskirt or not.

I note that you include for supposed political correctness "or man".
That must be why it has been introduced first in Scotland.

I'm pretty sure that the first time you saw it on this site, knickers and bums were not mentioned.

Nor to me, when I was made aware of it on Friday afternoon at around 3.30.

Apparently this up skirting caper go's on at schools , they were talking about it on the radio . What will they do about that ? and will this law stop or hinder this practice in schools , bearing in mind the age of the potential offenders

said on the radio that many girl pupils in some schools have to wear shorts under there skirts or go in trousers ??

I wonder how much it really goes on. I hope the draft is careful and not modelled on the Scottish version.
