We used to use one of those plug-in circuit breakers when using a mower, hedge trimmer etc . but have recently had the circuit-board replaced with a wylex board that has rcd's (the old one used fuse wire). Do we still need to use the plug-in thingy?

If the socket outlets are protected by an RCD then technically no, although imo it doesn't really matter if you still use the plug in RCD as well.

Just in case....

RCD - Usually one switch with a "Test Button" on, rated at 30mA
MCB - Individual switches protecting the circuit.

I know the replacement fuse-board probably does have these, but just with you saying RCD's....

There is a test button and a label stating that there is rcd protection, but there are also switches protecting each circuit I presume these are mcb's, it's a new installation. Is there any point in using the plug-in?

if its a split load board - RCD halfway along(ish), check the socket you use for the lawnmower etc is on the RCD side - if it is, you can stop with the plug-in.

if the incomer is an RCD (left or right hand side) then you dont need to use the plug in - full stop.

note: some wylex split load boards have the main switch at one end and the RCD at the other!
