Citroen Dispatch 2.0hdi 2001 wont run.. anyone help?!

My van has similar symptoms, havent been able to start it since a 1 month lay-up.The only thing out of the ordinary was a slight loss of power or hesitation on acceleration and a tendency to need a bit more cranking to start. At the time I put it down to a lazy starter or engine wear(192000 miles),now though it refuses to start.Preheating circuit is tip top, lift pump ditto,Im getting crank sensor signal, pressure in the rail(not measured just observed by cracking open the high pressure feed to the rail).
The afore mentioned hesitation could be relevant,a mechanic friend suggested the injection pump could have a worn or leaky piston or the pressure regulator is faulty. My next step now is to take the pump to a diesel injection specialist and have it tested. The system on my van is the Bosch EDC15.

I finally got the engine going after a lot of trial and error.
The main problem was a worn injection pump not generating sufficient pressure.I fitted a pump from a 306 hdi with 90000 miles and it started on the first revolution! Once it was running I found power was very reduced a leakback test showed no 1 was passing ,since the engine starts on no 1 every time, this was also adding to the non starting.
One refurbed injector later I have put up 4000 miles with no problems, she`s back to full power, just passed emissions with flying colours .
The wear in the pump is unusual-I always use branded diesel, none of that supermarket stuff so i guess I was just unfortunate.

Had the same problem with my C5, it was becoming more and more difficult to start from cold and when hot wouldn't start at all, changed the pressure sensor, made no difference - well it wouldn't would it :( got a secondhand pump off ebay, been fine ever since.

Ive owned my 2001 Citroen Dispatch 2.0 hdi for around 3 years and it has been faultless.. until this problem..!
The van wasnt used for a few weeks, then one morning I went to start it and the battery had run flat so I used some jump leads in attempt to get it going.. however it just wouldnt go, just kept turning over..
So we towed the van to a mechanic.. he did some tests and said the glow plug relay wasnt working nor the pump in the fuel tank and something else.. so suspected an ECU fault..(maybe an immobilser inside the ecu or something)
The ECU was sent away to be checked and returned with no faults..!
Just wondering if anybody could suggest anything else left to check.. or has had the same issue?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Hi is the engine manigment light on when you switch ign on if not.Its a broken wire,Its on the wiring harness just under fuel filter. In plastic covering take the covering of and look for wire at the lowest point white or green wire.REGARDS GORDON or tel 07979391100

Just an update to my original post. Sometime later the car started cutting out occasionally, I eventually found that it was the pressure regulator on the pump, I fitted the one from my original pump and the original fault came back - so the pump was OK  I got another regulator from ebay and that put the engine light on.

There is a very fine filter on the regulator, so fine in fact I couldn't find a way to clean it, so I ground the end off, works fine now. Some regulators come without the filter.

What happens is that the pump wears away very slowly, and puts metal fragments into the fuel rail which slowly prevent the injectors seating well. Then when things get too bad you can't generate enough pressure during cranking to get it to start. It seems pretty typical of all common rail diesels.

If you invest in a cheap diagnostic scanner that can measure parameters like rail pressure you would be onto this straight away. A Pug forum would probably help you with an OBD11 scanner that worked well on the HDI.

Hi there.

My Citroen dispatch 2.0 hdi has a problem I was just wondering if anyone can suggest anything? Right my van was parked up for about 4/5 weeks it was running fine with no problems when it was parked up. But when I have gone back to fire it up it turns over but doesn't Fire up it just turns over I see this is a common falt with thease vans :( but I have checked the fuel pump relay and the pump isn't primeing but when I hard wire it straight to the battery it works? Also when you put the key all the lights on the dash and temperature gage go loopy. I feel it's an ECU problem but it's been tested and it seems to be fine? Could anyone help thanks.
