According to a recent program on Discovery this is a natural occurence which happens every so many million years. It will happn again in a few thousand years and there is nothing anyone can do about it.
It is all due to the 'wobble' of the earth on its axis which causes it to point away from the sun for a length of time creating an ice age in the northern hemisphere then slowly tilting back and causing 'global warming'.

Just live your life and stop getting stressed out about it because there is nothing you can do to stop it.
