DEBBOOL, I have nothing personal against you - my posts (on this topic) are merely whimsical (except on the point about the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations).

A word of advice - you've kinda strolled into the lions' den, and everyone here is just being playful, with claws withdrawn.

However, the serious point underlying all of this is that you've been straying uncomfortably close to advocating that the OP (original poster) should continue with his boiler maintenance activity. I think you should respectfully withdraw from that stance, bearing in mind how many playful cats are sat around, washing themselves, just waiting for the moment you cross the statutory line. Shall we just call it a day on this topic, before anyone gets hurt?

I am not sticking up for you I am sticking up for kev and softus who are pro pro

there is no such thing as a pro DIY'er that is an oxymoron it dont make sense.

I agree that there is **** loads a competent (very different form a professional) DIY'er can do.

But as Kev said (along with several others but you seem to dislike kev so are targetting him for some reason) there are jobs that they cannot do BY LAW and this is one on them.

No one on the site has an axe to grind ( Idont see kev or soft saying you have to use THEM for the job) so they make no cash doing this and if they say dont do it then it dont profit them at all, and you would be well advised to follow their advice.

No I am not having a go at you as you can do what you like to what you like as many times as you like. If you are rubbish at it and kill someone, as long as it aint my family or me what do I care? But be careful as it is oh so easy to make one mistake with gas/Electricty that results in disaster.

No - you're quite right - you have the absolute right to post your opinions. I'm fine with that.

This is one of those posts where your relative illiteracy is severely masking your intent. Er, I'm not CORGI registered, nor have I ever been, nor have I ever pretended to be; is this comment directed at someone else?

Not that it matters - the regulars here are all bigger than this. I, for one, have had my fun, so I'll take my leave now and wait to see how one crockadile (sic.) fares against the rest of the troop of lions; if they can be bothered. Let the record show that I tried to be nice - it doesn't happen often

Gosh you got me worried now, what is so difficult about removing and replacing the combustion chamber cover? I carried out this procedure to replace an ignition transformer(the electrodes are obviously within the chamber) and it was only 3 screws holding it on. The gasket was fine. What, apart from the law, is the complicated bit?

Nobody has said that it's complicated, nor that the law is complicated. In fact, the law is very simple on the matter.

If you have an issue that you'd like to raise about your boiler, please start a new topic, rather than hijack this one.

Nothing complicated but the combustion cover can be what stops products of combustion entering the property and so needs to be checked....how did you check yours out of interest?. The main problem here is that the original poster had no knowledge of the boiler judging by the post and so probably also didn't know how to check the sealing of the cover so was advised accordingly. Unfortunately the post has become hijacked by a poster who may be more knowledgable and its all turned into a farce.
