There is some truth in this. US have pushed their agenda too far upto Russia's back door. Russia is no doubt entitled to rogue state title, but more diplomacy was required with them. Especially after their massive climbdowns and compromises since the fall of Soviet Empire. US and The West have been clumsy and provocative.

The reason putin is in power and the people haven't ousted him is because the people do not know what is happening. Putin's propaganda machine is, at least, on a par with hiltler's and quite possibly much much better considering the technology available now as opposed to then. But of course it suits the pro russian trolls on here to say different.
