Common light fitting problems

Some batten lampholders have a third "blank" terminal that is not attached to anything electrical within the lampholder, and it is intended just for the loop, not the earth, unless of course it is marked with E or the earth symbol.

I have solved the problem. It seems that the light switch was at fault. When i replaced it everything worked fine. Something inside the switch had blown. Thanks for all your help!
