Hey guys and gals

I have a large box planter in the garden that is made of brick and then skimmed. There was a timber sub-frame fitted to this that was then covered with timber decking. Something like this

The boards were screwed vertically to the timber sub-frame and all looked pretty good for a few years till they started to rot. Now looking to redo this but using hollow composite decking boards instead.

I have a tradesman engaged who has started to cut the boards to size and will do the work for me. His plan is to use grab adhesive (or similar) to fit the composite planks directly to the skimmed brick surface. BUT I'm wondering if this is going to be a problem over time ... would temperature change cause expansion issues?. I've read that a sub-frame is a must when laying composite decking on concrete in the traditional sense as a horizontal deck ... but would I need one for my use case which is more for decorative purposes and with the boards set vertically, I don't think water would sit against the composite for any long period of time. Similarly do I need to consider 3mm spacers between the boards?

He is not back till Thursday so I'm hoping to get a steer from people here before then hopefully! Perhaps I'm over-thinking this.

Appreciate any thoughts!
