This is closer to a heating question than anything else, hope this is the right section.

Basically my house had its loft converted before we bought it and at the moment we aren't using the rooms up there. The 2 rooms and 1 bathroom all have Velux Windows which are getting condensation on them which is in turn beginning to damage the bottom of the window frame.

I normally leave the doors to these rooms gapped open and radiators are on low so that nothing freezes.

What I would like to know is, for rooms that aren't used, is it better to keep the doors closed or open? If I close them less moist air would get in, but also nothing would get out. Should the vents in the Velux be left open (the handle partially open)?

We have plenty of ventilation throughout the house and washing is dried in a utility room with a dehumidifier so can't do much more water vapour wise.

Thanks.

heeelllooo chucks long time no speak :D :D

the trouble you have is hot air rises so all the moisture laiden air will rise and condense on the coldest surface

you need to keep the doors shut and air the rooms perhaps every other day for an hour or so

Hello big-all :) I have been quiet on the diy and home problems front but I noticed the issue today.

What you suggest makes sense so I will give that a shot.

Cheers.
