Condensation in loft

I can't make it out. Pull back the insulation and photograph from the inside, please, with flash or more light.

So the bottom is a load of dust and dirt. Where the two points meet there’s no gap to the outside?

My guess...

The original roof had tiles, with no sarking, so there was plenty of ventilation. The top of the wall, between the timbers, was cemented up, so there is minimal air flow that way. The new roof, and it's membrane, has reduced the ventilation drastically. The fix, is to allow ventilation via the eaves, by removing some cement, and add ventilation at a point opposite the eaves, so probably your ridge vent idea.
