Why is the bottle trap not good?

As long as it's cleaned regularly then I would say there's nowt wrong with a bottle trap under a sink, especially if space is at a premium. It's also better at catching valuable stuff that may otherwise be lost in a P Trap. P-Trap's are the best for flow of course but there's nowt wrong with a quality bottle trap either IMO.

The clamp you linked to appears to have a rubber gasket for fitting, nothing that would need to be solvent welded?

You're right.. I will look to purchase something similar which can be stuck together with solvent weld.. I just want a joint i can guarantee will be leak free

And, btw, @Madrab makes a fair point about the bottle trap for valuables and tight space but it will need regular cleaning, which ain't a bad thing

Well as you can probably garner from my preference for solvent weld fittings, i want something as low maintenance as possible.

So i will consider replacing the bottle for a P trap
