Hi all, moved cooker cable from behind the back of the cooker, hoping to reposition the switch to the side of the cooker.
The wiring is on a flat roof kitchen extension so only accessible from below.
How do I get around the joist in the photo so I can chase new route down the wall?
They'll be a cladding ceiling going onto the roof latts

Many Thanks.

You pass the cable between the joist, and the wall. You likely need to clean the plaster out, from behind the joist.
I can't, as board for the flat roof lays on top of the joist, going behind the joist would hit the board.

Many Thanks.

Is there not 1 inch approx void between the joist and the wall?

If you're dropping your ceiling by the depth of the battens why is this a problem?

No sorry there's nothing, joist is up tight to the main wall the the extension roof board on top.
Then drill a hole through the centre of the joist, going down at a very slight angle. Then, drill a hole at the top of the wall in the room upwards, through the plaster, to meet up with hole in the joist.

Just don't drill through the roof or anything like that.

The battens are 15mm thick for the ceiling, you think this is achievable? I don't want to cut into the joists.
I was thinking I may see better once I start the chase under the joist.
Many Thanks.

15mm + the old ceiling can be notched out. So yes.

As I understand this: Drill through the joist (red circle) as steep as possible downwards, Make your chase (black lines) and drill/chisel out behind the joist

.

However as you have the new battens giving the extra space between the joist and new cladding

both methods have their own merits
