Cop27, Boris? **** me.

They made a good job of this
As of May 2022, the project is two years late and the expected cost is £25–26 billion, 50% more than the original budget from 2016. It is currently planned to be commissioned in June 2027 and has a projected lifetime of 60 years.

China General Nuclear Power Group(33.5%)

He announced a new one was starting. £800m provided as if it was the lot. Turns out to not be so simple.

Let's suppose you had somehow become the leader of a nation that had fallen on hard times.

How much would you spend on HS2 and Hinkley C?

As much as needed, I don't think that the needs are invented by idiots though. Some do.

What about food for the hungry children of the poor? Different answer?

That in part relates to the need, The other aspect is who is paying up front? You saw who is paying that with one nuke station.

HS2 subject to some factors etc I'd tell China to get on with it. The arguments against their 5g are rather weak as well.

The nuke station details I posted - a lot of local work of all sorts. What if those people were not employed or businesse didn't have the work it needs? The jobs, jobs etc mentioned with going green only happen when the work is being done. On a nuke station it probably increases cost.

You can read a business plan for HS2. With a careful read you might even understand why it is needed. It purely relates to capacity. The existing network will just not reach levels that are high enough. Even speed relates to this.

B'ham has gained a tram service. It takes people off the roads. Only problem is it keeps falling apart indicating the kit wasn't tested that well. ;) Maybe China doing HS2 is a good idea.

Don't forget the HS1 farce. An attempt to do similar but slower at lower cost.

It'll be just a big talking shop and free session, full of jet-setting hypocrites.

His team are on board (the plane and the freebies) and the flight was going anyway. We've got to position ourselves in the world post Brexit and this sends the wrong message.

Blup

Since the PM is most busy with the economic problems of this country then perhaps a representative of the cabinet could go; like the Environment Secretary. It's their job, surely.
