You don't need to hammer it in, just insert it. You might need one of these to get it out, though.

It isn't, it's just there until the hole gets started, then can be removed. It should fit tight enough to stay in for a couple of minutes.

Yep, good point. The other goes up to 152mm. Anyone got any issues with the Makita? Overall reviews are good.

Yes. They are a tad underpowered compared to tools like the Marcris, Milwaukee and Metabo. Make sure you get the long side handle with it - any core drill is dangerous to use without it
