Not as simple as that -- you're making it out to be an "us and them, rich and poor" situation. What about all the poor boggers in between who work hard, spend wisely and save what they can scrape together only to get set back again at the next hike in tax, utility rates, etc.? We are kept exactly where the governments want us with our heads just bobbing above the water.
I've never claimed a penny of benefits in my life and I've never been given anything from Mummy and Daddy to get where me and my partner are now, yet these past two years have been a real struggle after redundancy, ending up working in a car parts factory for 50 hours a week and only just getting back somewhere similar pay-wise to where I was before the Covid reaction. We have been sensibly waiting a few years to have a child, and now that is just 12 weeks away I'm doing what I can to prepare for the massive drop in income we'll face.
I welcome anything to help ease what's going to be another tough year for the silenced mass of 'ordinary' working families. I don't want handouts but when the tax is raised year-on-year by its maximum permitted rate, can you blame people for wanting some respite?
If you think you're worse off in your "massively upgraded" home than somebody renting out social housing, then you're quite simply deluded.
You are **************************
I've met many older people over the years before I left that job. They'd worked hard like me up to
60 hours a week, rarely a holiday, rarely bought anything on HP, paid all their bills and now retired
they have the property and in many cases large property, thousands on repairs etc were as social housing does not. Because they paid towards a private pension the disposable income is a lot less than someone o benefit and no property to meant and I think the pay , those not working on benefits pay 5% council tax if that.
We've never been given a penny and never wanted it as it went to our siblings who could not afford a property of their own as in our family we will always try to leave social housing for those that really need it, ie unwell/unable to work or on low wages but it does not work like that.
We've had a massive drop in income but good planning has got us through this but money is tight as our property is massive and the maintenance is high - no we won't sell it as our children bought houses on our road and we look after the grandkids - we worked for it and because we saved we are never going to get a penny in any benefits.
Worse still but I may be wrong - those paying almost F all council tax will get the full 150 pounds - you could not make it up.
We worked hard for at times 80 hours a week both of us - so much so for the "reward for working" from this lying scum of a political party - having said that all political parties are bastards especially those absuing the perks and more and lying to get votes.
