crash repair and pricing

so the guys takien the urine with his figures at a guess hes either gone to main dealer or baack street and then added a few dollars on, what you can do, now this is an option for you.

run it through your insurance but tell them you want to settle if no claims for injury are made coz thats the next thing to happen.

the insurance tells the other driver to go to there repair centre who will not inflate cost and work at minimal rate just to maintain the insurance contracts by giving competative quotes coz tehy work for insurance company not for you.

no cash goes to ther driver hew doesnt get a say in it and anything above what the insurance company repairer quotes he has to pay outa hes pocket.
so work is cheaper he cant swing the lead and if hes not happy with the job then thats not your problem he has to take it up with the repairers and insurance company.

dont forget if he claims injury its gotta go through insurance so if you settle now he can still claim injury, run it through and settle cost with insurance you then have the later option of saying no no settling injury cost run it as a claim.

ring yer insurance and ask them what to do in general no details required as to settling claims below excess cost you might be surprised if you tell them your intentions on it

hes gone to a Local but large firm that usally does insurance work, and he used to work for them from what he said which is what made me think wht you said, that hes gone in, said itsa cash job and bulk out the invoice to make is seem like a bigger job that it realy is and making money in his own pocket from me. Will have a look into insurance and if i get chance give them a call see what they say, but so far they seem (like most insurance companies) a bit of a waste of time.
I dont think he would make calaims for injury since he wasnt even there at the time of the scrape, but then again you never know with some people. Will deffinatly have a look into what insurance have to say. Thanks for your advise to eveyone who posted, has helped alot.

was anyone in the car at the time??

if not just tell him you want a independent inspection, for all you know hes got a old workmate to do it or he may even have old stationary at home and printed it himself.

im sure you have explored all routes by now, tell him you want independent inspection, see the garage owner and ask him to inform you of the damage cost and whether the guy has approached him or not etc etc, your the customer not him so loyalty should be with who ever pays him

If it where me I would, find a garage local to you who can do the work (is he local to you?) and ask if he can take the car to them for a quote as you dont know what a sensable price is but £1200 seems a little high and you would like a second opinion.

If he doesnt like the idea of that, say you can offer him £850 cash without, in the hope that you can negotiate a deal around the £900 mark saving you £300

Sadly, while if he is co-operative that can work in your favour, you actaully between a rock and a hard place and £1200 is still a f-ton better than going through your insurance which he could do if he wanted to.

Either that, or as said, get the insurance company to sort it all out and then pay it off in cash rather than have them process it as a claim, but i bet that works out at more than £1200.

Sad but its true.

I did simular myself after I crash through a fence and damaged a car with the debris two years into driving. The damage was slightly but said car had just done its first 1000miles that trip so the owner was clearly not over the moon. In the end he dropped everything and said he would just leave it, but it could have been very diffrent.

if your keeping insurance company out of it,then iirc DO NOT CONTACT THEM.
im sure they have a tendency to put on your file a claim this will then inflate your premium for next year, whether they have paid or not.
im sure auto express investigated this at some tim or other?

thats what i thought about insurance, hence the reason for just going down the cash route. And also no, he wasnt in or near the car at the time, he was out to my knowlage. Yeah hes local to me so geting him to go to a local place should be easy enough, unless he wants to be difficult and refuse to go, then he can just get lost and pay for the damage himself. Iv offerd to pay but on my terms, deffo no paying what hes asked.
Iv thought about what Doyle has said, with him working there years hes bound to know people and get it done cheap but have the invoice printed (or himself) so make it seem a big expensive job. Will see what happesn in next few days when i tell him the garages iv called round and from what they say it should be about £350 give or take a bit.
