reverting to the subject matter... funerals are a reflection on the life recently passed. In particular IMO they sadden people since it is the passing of the status quo. If a momentary release of such morose reflection is created by the introduction of a humorous coffin, then what is the harm? After all, the amount of energy spent on this is miniscule in comparison with the energy used throughout that person's life.

My old gran (b1903) insisted on cremation. She was apalled by how much land is used for the dead.

Land is for the living, not the dead, she'd say.
